Field Scientist
Bio:
Gideon Galu is a US Geological Survey/FEWS NET regional scientist for east Africa with over 16 years of experience in the region, where he focuses on agroclimatic monitoring and early warning in support of the USAID’s FEWS NET activities. He is an MSc graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he studied Atmospheric Sciences, with a specialization in satellite meteorology. Galu has been instrumental in developing food security outlook scenarios with 6-9 months lead-times based on downscaled seasonal forecasts. He also supports extensive institutional capacity development of local, national, and regional partners in remote-sensing and GIS applications for food security monitoring and early warning systems within the region.
